Understand saved sources and sync status
Read scheduled sheet sources, check import outcomes and understand Read it now, pause and removal without mistaking a queue for completion.
Separate the source from the import#
A saved source tells Kite where to read people from, where to put them and how often to check. An import is the background job that processes those rows. The source can be enabled while its latest import is still waiting, running or stopped.
For the direct Google Sheet route, Kite reads the saved sheet on a schedule and imports when its content changes. This is a one-way import into Kite. It does not promise that edits in Kite will be written back to the sheet, or that every CRM connection has the same behaviour.
Choose a supported source#
Open Settings → Imports. Import people offers supported one-time routes. Set up a sync opens A Google Sheet, kept in sync.
The direct sheet route requires a sheet that is already accessible to anyone with its link. Use it only for a sheet you are authorised to use with that access. Keep confidential sheets private; an access error is not a reason to make private contact data public. A supported file import may be the appropriate route, or use an authorised connected route where its actual capabilities fit your needs.
Before the final confirmation, review the sheet, column mapping and destination. A contacts destination and a campaign destination have different effects. Adding a scheduled source attempts an initial import as well as retaining the schedule; verify both the source and the actual first job afterwards.
Follow Import and check your contacts for field mapping, destinations and row outcomes. Do not assume imports or repeated reads are free of applicable usage rules.
Set up a sync opens the Google Sheet kept-in-sync route with a link field and Cancel.
Read the saved source#
Choose Syncing in Imports. For each source, read the name, Into destination, cadence, On or Off state and latest result.
| State or message | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| On | Scheduled checks are enabled; it does not establish a completed import. |
| Paused / Off | Future scheduled reads are paused. An import already queued or running can still finish. |
| Check last read | The source has a reported read problem. Inspect its details and the related import. |
| No completed read is recorded yet | A completed-read timestamp is absent. It does not prove that no attempt was made. |
| Sources could not be read | The current source list is unknown; it is not an empty list or proof that all schedules stopped. |
An error may be more useful than a timestamp, so the row can show the error first. Use the actual import record for counts and outcome details.
Syncing lists the saved destination, cadence, paused schedule and refused sheet read.
Use Read it now deliberately#
Read it now asks Kite to check that saved source using its saved mapping and destination. It is an action, including on a source whose scheduled reads are paused; use it when you want that check.
Read the result before pressing again. A queued import has not completed. A message that the sheet has no new changes means the content check found no change to import. An already-queued or running result points to existing work. A not-due result means a scheduled check has not reached its due time.
Open Imports and inspect the relevant job. Check its status, written rows, skipped rows and errors. A finished job does not establish that every original row arrived; use the reported counts and reasons. A missing row total stays unknown.
If the request's result is uncertain, re-read the source and import list first. Repeated clicks are not a way to prove success and may obscure which job you are checking.
Pause or remove a source#
Use the source's On/Off control to pause future scheduled checks, then read back its state. This changes the source schedule, not a mission, subscription or import already in flight. If you also need to stop campaign work, inspect its own controls and current state separately.
Remove removes the saved sync source. It does not delete contacts already imported. Before removing, check the destination and whether you need to preserve the schedule details. Read back the source list after the action; an unavailable list cannot confirm removal.
Recover a refused read safely#
Check the exact error, saved destination, sheet link and existing access. If access is intentionally restricted, preserve that restriction and choose an appropriate supported route. Do not give an agent broader sharing permissions to repair the error.
If the source list cannot be read, use the available retry and retain the warning. Keep the time, source name, import status and error for support. Avoid sharing full contact rows or private source links in public feedback. Get help with useful context explains a useful support report.
Watch the controls#
See the source route and the Syncing view, then use the written steps to check the actual job outcome. The video shows the controls and does not submit an import.
Understand saved sources and sync status
Work with your agent#
An authorised agent can explain import information exposed by its current connection. Saved-source controls may not be exposed there, so use the in-app steps when needed. Agents should prepare a diagnosis and distinguish known, incomplete and unreadable results.
Campaign enrollment remains with the person in Kite. Do not use a re-read or source-enabling action to bypass that boundary. A public University endpoint provides guides; it does not connect to or operate your private workspace.
A clear task to copy
Prepare a read-only source and import diagnosis. Discover the actual authorised tools and schemas. Where available, use list_contact_imports and then get_contact_import with an actual returned import_id. Report status, progress, imported/skipped counts, errors and any unknown total exactly as returned. Do not equate queued with finished. If saved source controls or records are not exposed by the connection, say so and provide the Settings → Imports → Syncing steps rather than inventing sheet tools or source IDs. Distinguish a saved schedule, a source check and a background import. Explain paused scheduling and the possibility that queued or running work can finish. Cite the current guide, section and version. Prepare only. Do not read a third-party sheet without specific authority, change sharing, create, enable, re-read or remove a source, prepare or start an import, enroll a campaign, send messages or spend money. Campaign enrollment stays with the person in Kite. Keep source links and contact rows out of public feedback.
This prepares guidance. Use the controls in your Kite workspace for account changes and starting work.
Before you move on#
Find a saved source and state its destination, schedule and latest known outcome. Identify any import still waiting or running. You are ready when you can explain what the source is set to do and what the actual import has accomplished.
